Youth Program in Santa Clarita Valley

Dancers at this age are taught in a more structured environment.  We strive to provide a strong foundation in dance while still nurturing their imagination and creativity.  In addition to dance techniques, concepts like self-awareness, self-expression, discipline and teamwork are promoted in these classes.

Ballet

This class will be concentrated on the technical aspects of beginning ballet with focus on identifying muscle groups and working to help posture, alignment, flexibility, strength and poise. Students will use both the ballet barre and center exercises in their curriculum.

Attire: leotard (any color) & pink or skin tone convertible tights

Shoes: ballet shoes (see front desk for style/brand recommendations)

Hair: pulled back neatly in a ballet bun

Ballet & Tap

This “combo class” is an introduction to the artforms of ballet & tap.  

We will teach beginning concepts and terminology to provide a strong foundation. These skills are taught in repetition, while also encouraging behaviors such as class etiquette, following directions and waiting your turn.

Attire: leotard & tights (any color), skirts optional. 

Shoes: ballet & tap shoes are required. (see front desk for style/brand recommendations).    

Hair: pulled back neatly away from face.  A ballet bun is preferred. 

Jazz and Tap

Dancers in this “combo class” will experience an introduction to the artforms of Jazz & Tap. 

Jazz dance can encompass skills in a wide range of dance from classical jazz, to musical theater, to sassy upbeat styles. Tap will help our dancers tune in to the rhythms and musicality aspect of dance. Jazz and Tap  basics will be taught that will serve as a strong foundation.

Attire: fitted dance attire

Shoes: Ballet or Jazz shoes for Jazz and Tap shoes. (see front desk for style/brand recommendations)

Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face

Ballet and Lyrical
or Jazz and Lyrical

These “combo classes” are an introduction to the closely related artforms of ballet & lyrical and jazz & lyrical. 

Dancers will participate in a focused ballet or jazz technique lesson and also have the opportunity to explore the freedom of lyrical dance.  Lyrical is a fluid and expressive dance genre that uses ballet and jazz technique as a foundation. 

Attire: leotard & tights (any color). Skirts optional.      

Shoes: Ballet shoes for the entire class or  ½ shoes are acceptable for Lyrical. (see front desk for style/brand recommendations).

Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face.  Ballet bun preferred.

Hip Hop

This class utilizes “kid friendly” up-tempo music and dancers will be introduced to beginning hip hop steps and work on coordination and musicality.

Attire: Dancewear or comfortable, easy to move in clothing that is not distracting.  

Shoes: Athletic shoes – please make sure they are clean and free of sand, dirt, and debris before entering the studio. 

Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face.

Tumble and Hip Hop

This class utilizes “kid friendly” up-tempo music and dancers will be introduced to beginning hip hop steps and work on coordination and musicality. 

The tumbling portion will focus on gross motor development including balancing, jumping and will introduce beginning tumbling concepts of forward rolls, handstands, bridges and cartwheels.

Attire: Fitted, comfortable, easy to move clothing that is not distracting. No skirts. Be prepared to “be upside down”.

Shoes: Athletic shoes – please make sure shoes are clean and free of sand, dirt, and debris before entering the studio. 

Hair: Pulled back neatly away from face
